IUBMB Comments
The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Sphingomonas sp. DC-6, initiates the degradation of several chloroacetanilide herbicides, including alachlor, acetochlor, and butachlor. The enzyme is a Rieske non-heme iron oxygenase, and requires a ferredoxin and EC 1.18.1.3, ferredoxin---NAD+ reductase, for activity.
